The Hotel Donaldson will open an exhibition featuring Grand Forks based artist Pirjo Berg on February 1st, on view until, April 30th, 2013. The exhibition by Pirjo Berg will feature paintings reminiscent of her years in North Dakota and her childhood in Finland.
Inspired by Finnish traditional rag rugs and wall hangings, Berg’s paintings represent the ever changing landscapes she has encountered during her life travels. The repetitive horizontal lines depicting cold, dark winter nights instill a feeling of familiarity in long-time residents of North Dakota and Minnesota.
Pirjo was born in Helsinki, Finland and received a Master’s degree in Regional Planning at the University of Tampere, Finland, before moving to the United States in 1991. In 1996 she returned to Academia to get her formal education in painting and moved back to Finland to attend the School of Art and Media in Tampere. After graduating with her BFA in 2000 she relocated to Seattle. In 2008 she moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota where she currently resides and works.
